Lok Sabha Election
There are generally two houses in the Indian constitution, one is the house of the people is called as Lok Sabha or also called as the lower house of India’s bicameral Parliament and other is Rajya Sabha is known as Upper house. Member of the Lok Sabha are elected by single-member plurality voting, the member represents their respective constituencies and hold their seats for five years and there is a provision in the constitution where on the advice of council ministers, the president of India can dissolve the body.
Currently, the house has 543 seats, initially, it was 500 in 1950, the maximum strength of the house allotted by the Indian constitution is 552 and has a seating capacity of 550. Two additional members were also nominated from Anglo-Indian Community on the advice of Indian Government by the President of India between 1952 and 2002.
24.03% of seats means 131 seats are reserved for representatives of SC and ST, out of which 84 seats for SC and 47 seats for ST.
Delimitation Commission of India is a commission established by the Government of India, the main task of the commission is redrawing the assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies boundaries. The present delimitation of constituencies has been done under the provisions of the Delimitation Act, 2002 on the basis of 2001 census. However, the seats of SC and ST community are changed in the state according to the census. The commission is an independent body and has power whose orders can be challenged in any court of law. Once the orders are prepared then there is no provision of modification.
Since 1952, the 17Lok Sabha election happened in the country, First Lok Sabha was held in 1952 and Jawaharlal Nehru elected first Prime Minister of India and Narendra Modi is the 14th Prime minister of India since 2014.
Lok Sabha Election System In India
Members of the General election are elected by the people of India directly, on the basis of Universal Suffrage. All the states are divided into constituencies and every constituency represents a member of Lok Sabha. All the political parties contest in the election and one member from the party elected as prime minister of the country which managed to win the maximum number of seats during the election.
